The Ministry Of Industry Collaborates With Krakatau Posco, Realizing The Human Resources Of The Competent Steel Industry

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) through the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) collaborates with Krakatau Posco to produce competent and resilient steel industry human resources (HR) to meet the needs of the Plant II project.

The joint venture company between POSCO and PT Krakatau Steel plans to develop Plant II to meet global steel demand.

According to World Steel Association data, global steel demand in 2023 will grow to at least 1.8 billion metric tons. Of these requests, 77.9 million tons of them are steel demand in the ASEAN region.

"The collaboration between BPSDMI and PT Krakatau Posco is expected to continue through direct implementation, both at the Petrochemical Industrial Polytechnic Banten, SMK/SMTI Yogyakarta, as well as other educational units within the Ministry of Industry," said Head of the Emmy Suryan Industrial Vocational Education Development Center in a written statement, quoted Thursday, August 31.

The scope of cooperation between the two parties includes the preparation of the implementation of vocational education, preparation of education infrastructure, development of competency-based education programs, development of cooperation programs with industry parties, community service, and other agreed areas.

"The Petrochemical Industrial Polytechnic of Banten and SMK within the Ministry of Industry has implemented dual system education. Through this education system as a way to link and match the world of education with industry so as to produce graduates who immediately work with high productivity," said Emmy.

Emmy added that the Ministry of Industry oversees 21 vocational education units, consisting of 9 Vocational High Schools, 11 Polytechnics, and two Community Academys that have collaborated with industry in various sectors both at home and abroad.

Posco itself is the first integrated steel factory in South Korea, which now produces up to 41 million tons of raw steel. Collaborating with PT Krakatau Steel, in 2010, PT Krakatau Posco was built in the Cilegon area, Banten.

President Director of PT Krakatau Posco Kim Kwang-moo appreciates the cooperation that has been established.

"Based on this agreement, we will actively provide support in the future in order to create special classes for optimal steel industry human resources in the Petrochemical Industrial Polytechnic of Banten and SMK under the Ministry of Industry," he concluded.
