JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) will develop bioenergy as a follow-up to the recommendations from India's B20 meeting.

Main Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati said Pertamina would utilize biofuels such as sugar cane, corn, cassava and sorghum to develop bioenergy.

"Later our energy will be based on bioenergy, because Indonesia has many resources. In India, I met with a technology liaison for bioethanol and the waste can be processed at an Indian company, this is one of the follow-ups that we will cooperate with," she told the media, Wednesday, August 30.

According to Nicke, the development of bioenergy has many benefits in accelerating the energy transition.

"For Pertamina, bioenergy not only reduces emissions but reduces dependence on imports and creates jobs. When we encourage plantations, we absorb more workers," added Nicke.

Nicke added, to increase energy independence, we must optimize Indonesia's natural resources.

"The name is sustainable, the real sustainable energy is that we actually have the resources," said Nicke.

As Co-Chair of India's B20 Energy Climate Energy Sources Efficiency Task Force, Nicke ensures that the big agendas in the Bali and India B20 recommendations continue to be followed up.

First, regarding more sustainable energy, one of which is New & Renewable Energy.

Second, in carrying out the energy transition it must be fair and affordable. And lastly, as a developing country like India with a large workforce, it must therefore ensure that everyone has access to clean, modern and affordable energy.

"We can't do it alone, every country can't do it alone, so global cooperation is very important. Pertamina itself has carried out several initiatives in the context of global cooperation for the energy transition," said Nicke.
