Until 2023, he explained, the MSME onboarding process to use QRIS would not experience any obstacles.

Based on data from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, there are already 22 million MSMEs using QRIS in 2023.

For your information, Bank Indonesia has implemented a new Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for QRIS services for micro businesses of 0.3 percent which is effective as of July 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Indonesian MSME Association (Akumindo) Edy Misero said that MSME onboarding would make it easier for MSME players to expand their business to a larger scale.

"Now the majority of people's spending patterns are digital. With QRIS, transactions can be adjusted to current people's spending patterns", said Edy.

Edy assessed that the application of these tariffs would not be burdensome for MSMEs. According to Edy, if the sales profit margin is 10 percent, the seller gets a profit of 9.7 percent even though there is a discount of 0.3 percent.

"If there is no QRIS and people don't buy it, they won't even get any profit at all", said Edy.

Answering journalists' questions, Edy asked the government to facilitate MSMEs in areas that have problems onboarding MSMEs to the digital ecosystem.

"If the government wants to realize the target of onboarding 30 million MSMEs to the digital ecosystem, please facilitate it. Rich in internet signals or digital literacy for MSME actors in the regions", said Edy.
