PT PLN (Persero) operates two Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA) and three Mini Hydro Power Plants (PLTM) with a total capacity of 36.6 megawatts (MW).

The Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Dadan Kusdiana detailed that the five generators consisted of PLTA Krueng Isep Expansion 10 MW located in Aceh, PLTA Batu Gajah Expansion 6 MW located in North Sumatra, PLTM Sukarame with a capacity of 2 x 3.5 MW located in Lampung, PLTM Anggoci with a capacity of 9 MW and PLTM Sistra Simandame 4.6 MW located in North Sumatra.

"We have hydro resources that in several places have been used by PLN as a based load. Well, this makes us at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources believe that we can further increase the use of our EBT resources in the future," Dadan said in his statement to the media, Thursday, July 20.

Meanwhile, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that his party continues to build clean energy-based power plants, one of which comes from water.

"Indonesia has abundant potential for water energy sources. This is our strength to be able to move from fossil energy sources to domestic energy sources. This step is at the same time to strengthen energy security," said Darmawan.

PLN continues to increase its clean energy capacity to pursue the net zero emission 2060 target. The growth in the increase in EBT-based generating capacity from year to year also continues to grow.

As of May 2023, PLN has operated a power plant sourced from water with a total capacity of 5,651 MW.
