JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGEO) continues to boost Indonesia's geothermal potential by forming a joint study with PT Kaishan Orka Indonesia. Through this collaboration, PGEO can increase installed capacity through the development of screen expander technology.
Pertamina Geothermal Energy President Director Julfi Hadi said this technology is one of the obstacles and opportunities for PGE in developing geothermal potential.
"Through the optimization of the screen expander technology from the results of collaboration with PT Kaishan Orka Indonesia, we hope to overcome existing obstacles," he told the media, Tuesday, July 18.
He added, through this collaboration, his party is optimistic that it can help achieve the Company's commitment to developing geothermal potential in Indonesia.
"Currently only 8.9 percent of the geothermal potential in Indonesia has been utilized. We hope that the optimization of the use of this technology can make us more productive in producing geothermal," continued Julfi.

This screen expander technology developed by PGE and PT Kaishan Orka Indonesia can extract additional energy from low-pressure fluids, thereby increasing the overall efficiency of geothermal power plants. By optimizing the screen expander technology, it is hoped that the resulting electric capacity will also increase.
He further explained that the advantages of this screen expander technology itself are also more environmentally friendly by increasing energy conversion efficiency. "This technology helps reduce the need for fossil fuels or other energy sources that can cause greenhouse gas emissions and environmental pollution," he continued.
It is known that PGEO recently announced its target of reaching 1 gigawatt (GW) in the next two years, where of the 672 megawatts (MW) of the existing installed capacity, PGE will add 340 MW.
