JAKARTA - Three innovation clusters of PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) won an award at the 2023 Indonesian Conference & Competition Occupational Safety and Health (ICC-OSH), which was held by Wahana Kendali Mutu and LPSDM YAPRIKA at the Atria Malang Hotel, East Java, on May 23-26, 2023.

The three innovation groups include GKM Fire Fighting Group 1 (FFG 1), GKM Fire Fighting Group 2 (FFG 2) and GKM Aquaman, with each receiving a 4 Stars title. All of them present ideas and innovation development related to strengthening the implementation of K3 in the Pupuk Kaltim environment in the past year.

VP of Work Safety and Health (K3) Pupuk Kaltim David Ronaldo Manik, revealed that ICC-OSH is one of the events to measure the effectiveness of innovation by each cluster involved, in order to support Pupuk Kaltim's commitment to provide a safe work environment in overseeing the company's business strategy.

The implementation of K3 has become the work culture of Pupuk Kaltim with various breakthroughs and innovations that continue to be developed every year. This is in line with the theme ICC-OSH 2023 entitled "The Implementation of K3 Culture in Every Business Activity To Support the Protection of Manpower in the Era of Digitalization and Climate Change (Climate Change).

"Especially in facing the era of digitalization and climate change, the protection of labor according to the standard K3 must be maximally implemented in realizing a safe work environment," said David, in his statement, quoted on Tuesday, June 6.

He explained that Pupuk Kaltim carries the concept of smart production through the use of information technology in production activities and K3, so that strengthening performance and risk management in supporting the company's business strategy can run according to objectives. The smart production commitment consists of strategic pillars such as K3, environment, productivity and reliability, as well as energy efficiency and raw materials.

"From that commitment, superior performance in the field of K3 is taken through leading and lagging indicators, so that it can run more effectively by utilizing technology and automation and digitalization efforts," explained David.

The implementation of K3 Pupuk Kaltim refers to the Work Safety and Health Management System (SMK3), as an absolute thing that must be fulfilled in supporting company activities. This is a follow-up to Government Regulation (PP) number 50 of 2012, which is implemented by PKT through a number of policies and strategies in meeting ISO standards 45001:2018.

This step is also an effort to increase consumer confidence in the national and global markets, supported by international standard such as IFA Protect and Sustain and Respondible Care.

In accordance with the digital transformation roadmap in the field of K3, Pupuk Kaltim has realized several achievements through an innovation program, as an effort to protect workers as well as prevent events that have the potential to cause fatality.

All of these innovations are through periodic reviews and updates, to ensure that the production process runs according to applicable regulations and meets K3 aspects. In addition, Pupuk Kaltim also identifies the risk of process hazards, such as Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

"Including ensuring the safety of the company's partners' work, the company uses the Contract Safety Management System (CSMS) to encourage partners to prioritize K3 in all activities," said David.

All company personnel are also encouraged to increase the culture of K3 in daily activities, as well as actively participate in suppressing potential risks in the work environment for activities that are unsafe in action, unsafe condition or that have the potential to nearmiss. One of the latest efforts is the declaration of the commitment of Stop Work Authority (SWA) in increasing awareness of working safely in the company environment.

The implementation of SWA is carried out through five stages of SNAPS, namely Stop, Notify, Assessment, Proceed and Shared, so that safety behavior in the workplace is always well maintained to be improved continuously.

"This is expected to be a guideline for all company personnel to take care of each other in their work, as well as efforts to minimize the risk related to K3 in the Pupuk Kaltim environment," continued David.

He ensured that Pupuk Kaltim would continue to improve the performance of K3 and the environment optimally, as a form of company compliance with regulations by evaluating and developing K3 aspects according to current challenges.

"The continued increase in K3 performance is PKT's main commitment in realizing a safe work environment, according to the slogan 'Safety is Our Personality' which is carried out and carried out by all company personnel," concluded David.
