Sharia Economy Grows Fastest, East Java Wins Award From Vice President Ma'ruf Amin

JAKARTA - The National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KNEKS) gave awards to the East Java provincial government as the General Champion at the Adinata Syariah Award 2023.

The rewards are a form of appreciation to the provincial government which makes the Islamic economic sectors a new source of economic growth.

Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin said this award was intended to be able to increase the leadership role of the provincial government in developing the economic and financial potential of sharia according to local wisdom (local wisdom) in their respective regions.

"The role of regional leaders, especially at the provincial level, is very crucial to direct economic development policies that can explore and optimize each leading sector of the Islamic economy," he said in a written statement on Friday, May 26.

According to the Vice President in order to accelerate and harmonize sharia economic development at the provincial level, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia encourages the acceleration of the formation of the Regional Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KDEKS) in provinces that do not yet have it.

"The government wants to align the sharia economic development program with relevant regional apparatus organizations so that the sharia economy does not become an exclusive cluster, but is one of the main flows (mainstream) of the Indonesian economy," he said.

On the same occasion, Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani stated that the established Islamic economic industry can strengthen national economic resilience and realize Indonesia's vision as the world's leading Islamic economic center.

"This award should not be the end point of the efforts of the governors in developing the sharia economy," said Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, who is also the Secretary of the KNEKS.

The government encourages this award to be a trigger for regional heads to encourage the development of the sharia economy in the regions to support national economic resilience.

For this reason, careful planning is needed, determination of relevant and measurable indicators and targets, as well as the implementation of effective and efficient work programs.

"The growth of the sharia economy, among others, is marked by the continued increase in total Islamic financial assets, where Islamic banking is a driving force," said the Minister of Finance.
