The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues the construction of a parent irrigation network sourced from the Baliase Dam in North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi (Sulsel).
The increase in the capacity of the Baliase Dam irrigation canal is part of efforts to increase agricultural productivity in South Sulawesi Province, which is one of the national food barns.
"The construction of the dam is followed by the construction of the irrigation network. Thus, the dams built at large costs can provide tangible benefits, where water will flow to farmers' fields," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono in a written statement, quoted on Tuesday, May 10.
Minister Basuki said that the construction and rehabilitation of irrigation networks is one of the priority programs of the Ministry of PUPR in order to support sustainable agricultural production.
