JAKARTA - The Indonesian Coffee Council (DEKOPI) together with BUMN Food Holding ID FOOD synergize in organizing the commemoration of National Coffee Day (HKN) in Jakarta. This HKN commemoration activity is simultaneously carried out in several cities throughout Indonesia.

Chairman of DEKOPI Rusman Heryawan said that the commemoration of coffee day from year to year is increasingly lively and wide. Since 2018, every March 11 has been commemorated as a national coffee day.

"This year's HKN March 11, 2023, has the theme The Archipelago Coffee Diversity Strengthens the Community Economy and Strengthens the Nation's Harmonious, this theme is intended to invite all parties to work together more closely and harmoniously in various activities both at the central and regional levels. Especially the executive, legislative and business ranks, especially after the commemoration of today's national coffee day," said Rusman, in his statement, Saturday, March 11.

According to him, the potential for upstream coffee needs to be more widely known, especially the millennial generation, which is more downstream. It is a fact that Indonesia is a coffee-producing country with the best and richest flavors and variations, but these facts and potentials have not been processed optimally so coffee cannot contribute to larger foreign exchange and provide a better life for coffee plantation farmers.

He added that the potential for coffee needs to be better recognized and wider. Continuous coffee development needs to focus more on building upstream and its institutions towards productivity of at least more than 1.5 tons/hectare.

According to Rusman, simultaneously it is also necessary to focus more on building downstream with domestic consumer education and expanding export roasted into processed coffee.

Meanwhile, President Director of Food Holding ID FOOD Frans Marganda Tambunan said that ID FOOD together with other related SOE synergies involved in PMO Makmur participated in promoting Indonesian coffee even to the international level.

"We have provided guidance to farmers, including coffee farmers through the Makmur program ecosystem, we synergize SOEs to help from upstream to downstream food chains, for coffee commodities in the third year of the Makmur program we are targeting 5,000 hectares of coffee land for coffee farmers development, let's work together and synergize to advance the Indonesian coffee industry," explained Frans at the HKN 2023 activity.

The DEKOPI Board of Trustees as well as the President Commissioner of PT RNI (Persero)/ID FOOD Bayu Krisnamurthi added that they must continue to synergize to encourage Indonesia's coffee diversity.

"We must promote and protect coffee diversity, therefore let's work together to promote and protect Indonesian coffee," said Bayu.

DEKOPI is now present in 11 provinces and will continue to grow. To all parties, especially lovers, supporters and farmers of coffee plantations throughout Indonesia, let's close ranks at the Indonesian Coffee Council under the Big House of Indonesian Coffee, which consists of organizations, socialization and the national coffee community, uniting differences in enjoying the diversity of Indonesian Coffee.
