From Japan, Sri Mulyani Reports a Series of JICA's Contributions to Development in Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani, emphasized that the financing carried out by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Indonesia is project-based. According to the Minister of Finance, JICA's most significant portfolio targets the infrastructure development sector.

"The focus is how to increase mobility and improve people's welfare", she said during a virtual press conference from Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, February 14.

Minister of Finance explained, JICA is also targeting flood handling projects in Indonesia considering that the organization has experience in managing water management in Tokyo.

"Seeing the frequency of natural disasters that occur throughout the world due to climate change, including in Indonesia, JICA has concern and interest in being able to help", she said.

Minister of Finance added, this organization also presents opportunities for cooperation in helping RI in the field of human resource development (HR).

Furthermore, the state treasurer revealed that JICA's current loan portfolio is still ongoing in various ministries, such as the Ministry of Transportation for MRT facilities amounting to 277 billion yen.

"Then at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), there is a project related to public housing with a value of 204 billion yen. Then, at the Ministry of Education and Culture in this case there are 8 billion yen which is almost complete", she said.

Next are PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and PT Pertamina, which received loan extensions for three projects with a commitment of 55 billion yen, and the Ministry of National Development Planning for a relatively small project of 7 billion yen.

"Those are ongoing, but some of what was conveyed by Mr. Tanaka (President of JICA) they will continue to assist such as in the MRT project", said the Minister of Finance.
