JAKARTA - Some time ago, there was an incident of burglary of an account at a national private bank that cost customers hundreds of millions of rupiah.

The customer had filed a complaint because the bank was deemed negligent in carrying out the procedure for disbursing funds, so that he felt aggrieved by the incident.

On the other hand, the bank considers that it has carried out the procedure for disbursing funds according to the applicable governance. In fact, banks consider customers not to store valuable documents such as ID cards, ATM cards, and savings books carefully.

Therefore, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on the official Instagram page, quoted from Antara on Sunday, January 29, shared tips so that the account remains safe and avoids hacking. Here are the tips:

1. Enable transaction SMS notification feature

By activating this notification feature, then if there is a transaction in your account--whether the funds are logged in or out--, the bank will send an SMS notification to the phone number registered on the account.

2. Check account history or balance regularly

You can do this easily, anytime and for free through the mobile banking application or internet banking bank.

3. Enable two-step verification feature

To maintain data security, secure your cellular device by activating two-step verification features such as using a fingerprint or face scan.

4. Avoid using public WiFi or Free WiFi

Use a private internet network and avoid using public WiFi or free WiFi to make banking transactions.

5. Keep your personal data

Never notify the user of ID, password, OTP code, account PIN or biological mother's name to anyone, including the bank, and change passwords regularly.

6. Be careful when using ATMs

Make sure there are no suspicious objects in the form of pasting other tools on the ATM machine and don't believe the bank's phone number at the ATM machine which may be unofficial to avoid skimming. If you have difficulty using an ATM machine, come to the bank immediately.

In addition, self-aware of people around ATMs offering assistance so that it is risky to know your password or clone your card.
