BCA Distributes IDR 183.2 Trillion Of Credit To Sustainable Sector In 2022

JAKARTA - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) disburses loans to sustainable sectors worth IDR 183.2 trillion or grows 14.9 percent on an annual basis in 2022 and contributes up to 25.4 percent of BCA's total financing portfolio.

BCA Director Vera Eve Lim said that in 2022 sustainable financing subsectors are still growing, including the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sub-sector which grew by 16 percent, the transportation sector by 16 percent, and the sustainable natural resources sector grew 14.2 percent.

"In accordance with the rules that existed last year, for every customer we finance, especially corporations, we first conduct an environmental sustainability risk assessment," he said in the 2022 BCA Performance Exposure in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara, Friday 27 January.

Thus, debtors need to periodically inform BCA of their ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) plans.

Because the application of ESG in each industry is different, debtors need to carry out a self-assessment regarding future ESG plans.

In order to encourage a circular economy, BCA also carries out waste management initiatives originating from operational activities, including non-organic waste, document archive waste, ATM cartridges, and uniforms that are no longer used by BCA employees.

Throughout 2022, the total waste managed by BCA will reach 518 tons.

"We are committed to contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia. Our waste treatment initiative in 2022 has the potential to reduce emissions of up to 348.9 tons of carbon dioxide or the equivalent of preserving more than 29,000 trees," said the President Director of BCA on the same occasion, Thursday.

As an effort to create a comprehensive impact from upstream to downstream, the waste treatment process is carried out by empowering local communities and MSMEs.

"Then, the processing proceeds will be distributed to the Bakti BCA Foundation, to provide educational scholarships for those in need," he added.
