JAKARTA - The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said the spontaneous tourism trend or impulsive traveling could be one of the solutions for the revival of tourism in Indonesia after the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is because the spontaneous tourism trend has experienced a significant increase of more than 10 percent in the past year.

"There's a trend called spontaneous tourism/impulsive traveling or impulsive tourism, so I didn't plan, I thought it would be late in the afternoon, the next morning I'd leave. So, it turns out that based on OYO's annual report, the trend of spontaneous tourism has increased by 14 percent in 2022," said Sandiaga in The Weekly Brief with Sandi-Uno in Jakarta, Monday, January 16.

Based on the data, said Sandiaga, it was recorded that more than 2.4 million orders were made one day before the trip by tourists or, interestingly, on the day of the trip, (tourists) just ordered.

"Bali was chosen as the main destination for New Year's celebrations, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, and Semarang are also top destinations, as well as spiritual and cultural tourism destinations that have also turned out to be a strong attraction," he said.

According to Sandiaga, this spontaneous tourism trend could be a solution to accelerate the achievement of 1.4 billion movements of domestic tourists (wisnus) this year.

"We believe that this spontaneous tourism trend can contribute more than 4 percent to tourism GDP. Spontaneous tourism, or what is known as instant tourism, is increasingly being triggered by the easing of PPKM rules. We want spontaneous tourism to be our momentum to make decisions, so that policies adjustable," he said.

Therefore, continued Sandiaga, his party will intensify the promotion of tourism products to achieve this goal.

"Through digital experience, we hope to be able to make a big contribution and contribution to the revival of tourism (Indonesia)," he said.

"Therefore, we encourage promotional activities, sales missions, edu trips, sun trips, with integrated cooperation," he said.
