The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) noted that 63,218 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in East Nusa Tenggara received tax exemption policies during January-December 2022.

"It was recorded that 63,218 MSMEs in NTT benefited from tax exemption policies throughout 2022 with a tax value that should have been collected of Rp. 19.08 billion," said Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury of NTT Province, Ministry of Finance Catur Ariyanto Widodo in a statement quoted by Antara, Monday, January 9.

He conveyed this was related to the realization of the tax exemption policy for MSME players during the January-December 2022 period.

Catur explained that the tax exemption for MSMEs was carried out in accordance with Law Number 7 of 2021 concerning Harmonization of Tax Regulations.

The regulation applies to taxpayers of individuals who have certain gross circulation, not subject to Income Taxes for the gross distribution section of up to IDR 500 million in one tax year.

He explained, every month during January-December 2022, around 4-6 thousand MSME actors are exempt from taxes with the total tax value that should have been collected ranging from Rp1 billion-Rp2 billion per month.

The MSME actors, he said, have their business turnover ranging from Rp. 200 million to Rp. 400 million.

Catur explained that the implementation of the tax exemption is a form of government support through the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) for empowering MSMEs, including in NTT.

Through this policy, he said, it is hoped that MSME players will be able to maintain their business in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
