JAKARTA - The Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (CoFTRA) revealed that internet users who have crypto assets in Indonesia are quite large. The figure reached 16.4 to 18.4 percent.

However, the popularity and value of crypto assets has actually decreased throughout 2022.

Acting Head of CoFTRA Didid Noordiatmoko said the total number of crypto asset registered customers rose from 11.2 million in 2021 to 16.55 million in 2022. "However, the value of crypto asset transactions has decreased throughout 2022," he said at a press conference, Wednesday, December 4.

Furthermore, Didid said that from January to November 2022, the value of crypto asset transactions reached IDR 296.66 trillion. Didid said, this figure fell 65.48 percent from IDR 859.4 trillion in 2021.

Didid added, this year there will be a crypto winter if it refers to a survey conducted by the Statista Global Consumer Survey.

Based on the survey, Didid continued, the number of Americans who have invested in crypto assets is 18 percent. However, the total population who plan to continue their investment is only 15 percent.

In fact, said Didid, previously in 2020 the popularity of crypto asset owners rose from 8 percent to 11 percent.

"We suspect that in 2023, this crypto asset is indeed experiencing an extraordinary winter period," he said.

Didid said, although the popularity of crypto assets has decreased, it is predicted that this year it will bounce back or rebound even though it is not too fast.

"As a result, the 2023 winter is not finished. It seems that it is still nearing the lowest point. This means that in 2023, although it is not getting worse, it seems that the rebond is not yet complete. If we look at the surveys," he explained.
