JAKARTA - After more than a year of operation and inaugurated by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono in February 2021, now the Purwosari Flyover, Surakarta, is being used as a public open space.

"This has been planned since the beginning of construction with the provision of open space, in the form of skateboarding and rollerblading at the bottom (class) of the flyover," Basuki said in a written statement, Wednesday, November 16.

One resident named Galang said, with the existence of the place, it really helped him and his friends to practice skateboarding together.

"The place is good and free. Playing skateboard here also doesn't get hot and it rains because it's under the flyover. Almost every day we gather here and there are no obstacles," he said.

In line with Galang, his co-star named Momon also admitted that he was very happy with the construction of the Purwosari Flyover and the open space facilities for the playground under him.

"Before there was a bridge (Flyover Purwosari), this road was always badly jammed if a train was passing because it was right next to Purwosari Station. Now it's good that there are no traffic jams, it could be a place to play too," he said.

Before being used as a public open space, said Minister Basuki, the construction of the Purwosari Flyover was initially used to overcome congestion

"The Purwosari Flyover was built to overcome congestion problems that often occur during peak hours on Jalan Slamet Riyadi which is traversed by traffic from the direction of Kartosuro (Yogyakarta/Semarang) to the center of Solo," he explained.
