JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) and ION Mobility through its subsidiary PT Industri Ion Mobility collaborate in building an infrastructure for charging electric-powered motorcycles (EVs). In this collaboration, ION Mobility will build 100 units of 100 units of Public Electric Charging Stations (SPLU) in the DKI Jakarta area and will continue to several other cities nationally according to market needs. The cooperation was signed by PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo and ION Mobility CEO James Chan and witnessed by Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Senayan Jakarta. Later, this SPLU can be searched through the mobile ION Mobility and PLN applications. "This breakthrough will make it easier for EV motorcycle users to find and use more than 2,900 SPLUs in DKI Jakarta and more than 6,500 SPLUs throughout Indonesia," said James Chan in his remarks at the signing of the cooperation agreement in Senayan, Wednesday, November 2. He also said that his party is currently developing an innovation of fast charging technology for MObility IONS and other EVs in the next few years so that EV motorcycle users can reach a distance of 100 kilometers (km) by charging for 15 minutes. "We believe the ideal infrastructure to support the full transition to EV motorcycles in Indonesia includes a network of fast charging stations, fast charging equipment at home and battery exchange stations supported by the PLN network," he explained. Meanwhile, the President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, said that the construction of this SPKLU is an important step to reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector which will reach 280 million tons of CO2e in 2020. Without intervention, by 2060 the emissions will reach 860 million tons of CO2e per year. One way that is done to reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector is the use of electric vehicles. On that basis, PLN fully supports the shift of fuel vehicles to electricity by building an electric vehicle ecosystem in the country. As an illustration, 1 liter of fuel oil (BBM) is equivalent to 1.2 kWh of electricity. The 1 liter carbon emission is equivalent to 2.4 kilograms (kg) of Co2e, while 1 kWh of electricity is equivalent to 0.88 kg of CO2e or 1.05 kg for 1.2 kWh of electricity. "This means that even in the current conditions, using electric vehicles has reduced emissions by 56 percent. Along with PLN plants that will go to EBT, in the future the emission electric vehicles will be zero," explained Darmawan. Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in her speech said that through the latest Presidential Decree Number 7 of 2022 all government vehicles will transition to EVs in the next three years. For this reason, his party welcomes the SPLU development program where users can pay according to their use. "We also always accommodate various incentives related to encouraging the development of the EV ecosystem in Indonesia. Through the latest Presidential Decree No. 7 of 2022, all government vehicles will transition to EVs in the next 3 years," he concluded.
