Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that carbon trading, including the carbon tax, will begin to be implemented in 2025. This is also a bright spot after previously being delayed.

Responding to the decision, the Association of Indonesian Private Electricity Producers (APLSI) Arthur Simatupang saw that this postponement policy was intended to strengthen the rules as well as harmonize policies to support the acceleration of EBT development.

"We from the IPP community see that this policy requires related derivative regulations so I see that there is a government policy to need to review and harmonize several regulations so that everything can run smoothly," he said at the Energy Corner, Monday, October 17.

For this reason, he as one of the PLTU developers welcomes any government policy related to the plan to reduce emissions.

This is because this policy has been stated in the roadmap or roadmap so that policy harmonization must be carried out.

"There is tax harmonization and there is a Presidential Decree regarding the carbon economy and there is a Presidential Regulation regarding EBT and PLTU's resignation, so I think all of this is related to each other and there really needs to be synchronization so that the implementation will run well," he continued.

Previously, the implementation of the carbon tax was planned to take effect from April 1, 2022, in line with the issuance of Law Number 7 of 2021 concerning Harmonization of Tax Regulations (UU HPP). However, currently its implementation is delayed until 2025.

Just so you know, the Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) of the Ministry of Finance Febrio Kacaribu stated that the carbon tax, if it is enforced in April 2022, will be an event for Indonesia's demonstrations at the upcoming G20 Summit (KTT) in Bali which will be attended by a number of heads of state and government.

"The government continues to use the implementation of the carbon tax in 2022 as a driving force for strategic policies that will be showcased in the G20 high-level meeting later. Including this showcase section, it also encourages other climate change mitigation actions, such as energy transition mechanism, which on the one hand is to retire early on coal power plants and accelerate new and renewable power plants," said Febrio on June 23.
