BIAK - Exports of fresh tuna from Biak to Japanese destination countries continued to increase from the previous 2.5 tons to 5.3 tons in the first week of September 2022.

Information on the export activities of fresh tuna from the Biak Regency Government received on Monday, said that the delivery of exports of Biak's fresh tuna had been sent three times using Garuda Indonesia airlines.

In the first export of 1.5 tons of tuna, the second export is 2.5 tons, and the third exports reach 5,371 kg or 5.3 tons.

"In an effort to send Biak's fresh tuna exports to Japan continues to increase and continue," said Head of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service, Biak Efendi Igirisa, quoted from Antara, Monday, September 12.

He said the volume of shipments could be done more than once a week, depending on Garuda Indonesia's flight schedule.

Efendi said the delivery of fresh tuna, frozen tuna, and other types of fish are still being carried out abroad from Biak.

The fish that were exported, continued Efendi, included fresh tuna species from Big Eye and Yellow Fin.

Efendi added, for the delivery of fresh tuna, PT Indo Pacific Numfor has a Fish Management Unit (UPI) at the warehouse of PT Pelindo Indonesia Biak Branch.
