JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) added a transformer with a capacity of 30 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) at the Labuan Bajo Substation (GI). This step is PLN's support to make Labuan Bajo a Super Priority Tourism Destination.

General Manager of the Nusa Tenggara Development Parent Unit (UIP Nusra), Wahidin, explained that previously the Labuan Bajo GI only had 1 transformer with a capacity of 20 MVA. This addition makes the Labuan Bajo GI operation use two transformers with a total capacity of up to 50 MVA.

"This step is a form of PLN's commitment to supporting economic activities in West Manggarai Regency, especially Labuan Bajo which is a super priority tourism destination area and of course a national strategic development area", Wahidin said in a statement to the media, Friday, September 9.

He added that the addition of this transformer makes the electricity supply to the Flores System stronger and more reliable so that PLN is more confident in supplying the needs of premium customers and the general public.

The Flores system currently has a capacity of 94.97 Mega Watt (MW) with a peak load of 79.34 MW, which means that there is a reserve power of 15.63 MW.

Furthermore, Wahidin said that the additional transformer project will absorb 40 local workers.

"In the last stage, we will complete the road access work that enters the substation location, so that the surrounding community can also enjoy and take advantage of better road access", Wahidin concluded.

Furthermore, PLN will build a high-voltage overhead line (SUTT) to interconnect the Labuan Bajo Substation with the Labuan Bajo Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) in the Rangko sub-district. The construction is planned to start in 2023.
