JAKARTA - Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Margo Yuwono gave a statement related to rumors of an increase in subsidized fuel prices (BBM) which are now continuing to blow.

Menurut dia, peningkatan banderol komoditas energi itu dipastikan bakal turut merek harga berbagai barang.

"The increase in fuel will have an impact on rising commodity prices so that it can encourage an increase in inflation," he said when speaking to reporters on Thursday, September 1.

Margo added that subsidized type of fuel is an important factor in forming inflation in terms of advanced price.

"The commodity of gasoline is one of the main contributors to inflation in the price group regulated by the government," he said.

It was also explained that gasoline contributed quite a strong role to the formation of inflation in general.

Based on data shared by Margo, it was recorded that monthly (month to month/mtm), the contribution of gasoline to inflation in August 2022 was 0.2 percent.

This figure is higher when compared to July 2022 which is 0.19 percent.

Meanwhile, general inflation last month was recorded at 4.69 percent year on year (yoy), or decreased compared to July which was 4.94 percent.

However, core inflation which illustrates real public demand rose from 2.86 percent to 3.04 percent yoy in August 2022.

This is important and needs attention because this commodity (BBM) provides a fairly large multiplier effect to the economy. If fuel rises, prices in several other sectors will increase and will have an impact on inflation," said Margo.
