JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) has decided to revoke the circulation of rupiah currency specifically for the 50th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia for the 1995 Year of the Emisi (URK TE 1995) from circulation. The head of the BI Communications Department, Erwin Haryono, said that this decision was effective from August 30, 2022, based on Bank Indonesia Regulation (PBI) No. 24/15/PBI/2022. "Thus, starting from the date referred to by the URK, it no longer applies as a legal tender in the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," he said in an official statement on Wednesday, August 31. Meanwhile, the replacement of the special rupiah money for the 1995 emission year which was revoked and withdrawn from circulation of the same nominal value as stated in the URK. Revenue services can also be carried out at the Head Office and the BI Representative Office in accordance with the operational schedule and public services of BI.

Erwin added that the replacement of the URK in shabby, record, or damaged conditions was carried out by referring to Bank Indonesia Regulation regarding the management of rupiah money, namely: 1. In physical terms, the metal rupiah is greater than 1/2 (one by two) the original size and the characteristics of the rupiah currency can be recognized as authenticity, replaced with a nominal value of rupiah currency exchanged2.
