JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that the number of foreign tourists from Australia who came to Indonesia increased rapidly in June 2022 to reach around 64,500 visits.

Head of BPS Margo Yuwono said that this figure contributed 18.7 percent of the total foreign tourists attending in the country.

"This was recorded at Ngurah Rai Airport and Soekarno-Hatta who came using a visit visa," he said when giving a presentation on Monday, August 1.

Margo explained, the second most foreign tourists last month came from Singapore with 53,000 visits. This was followed by Malaysian foreign tourists with 31,700 visits, India with 25,700 visits, and foreign tourists from the United States with 17,200 visits.

"Then cumulatively from January to June 2022 or one semester, foreign tourist visits by country also did not change with the most from Australia 118,300 visits, Singapore 93,200 visits, and Malaysia 63,900 visits," he said.

In general, the Head of BPS explained that foreign tourist arrivals in June 2022 amounted to 345,400 visits, an increase of 1,973 percent compared to June 2021 which was 16,700 visits.

"Cumulative foreign tourist visits from January to June 2022 from all countries were 743,210 visits or much higher than the same period in 2021 as 72,180 visits. This increase occurs in line with improved mobility and good health care in Indonesia,” concluded Margo.
