JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani said that efforts to protect the environment at this time can not only be done in traditional ways. According to him, the world's approach in viewing the issue of climate change has made the situation more complex.

The Minister of Finance explained that preventive efforts in the field would not be effective enough to suppress natural damage. Therefore, it is necessary to have the ability to manage problems more comprehensively to ensure environmental sustainability can be maintained.

"Friends who usually (concern) in the environment or have a passion for the environment should also be able to look into the financial and legal aspects," he said at the VII 2022 Indonesian Forestry Congress (KKI) quoted on Wednesday, June 29.

This assumption was obtained by the Minister of Finance based on his experience in interacting with various world leaders in climate change forums.

“If we interact internationally, it will be seen that they play at three levels, namely environmental issues from the technical aspect, the financing aspect, as well as regulations and laws. That's important because we can't just be militant on the environmental side, but we must also have a financial and legal strategy," he said.

In the editorial notes, the climate budget tagging in the APBN is quite large. The Ministry of Finance reports that in 2021 the government will allocate a budget of IDR 104 trillion.

While in previous years, it was recorded at Rp. 72.4 trillion in 2016, in 2017 by Rp. 95.6 trillion, in 2018 by Rp. 109.7 trillion, and in 2020 by Rp. 77 trillion.

The environmental organization that is quite well known in the country is the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi), as well as those from abroad, namely Greenpeace.
