Kaltara's Exports Soared Supported By The Non-Oil And Gas Sector, Governors: India, China, And Korea Favorite Countries

JAKARTA - The Governor of North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Zainal Arifin Paliwang revealed that there was a significant growth in export activity in his region from January to April 2022 of 95.8 percent year on year (yoy).

According to Zainal, most of international trade is supported by non-oil and gas commodities following the high demand from various countries.

"Alhamdulillah, our export potential is getting more promising. We have to make the best use of this potential," he said in an official statement when he visited the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Jakarta head office, quoted on Tuesday, June 21.

Zainal explained, the value of non-oil and gas exports in the first four months of this year reached 729.5 million US dollars. In detail, he explained that in the April 2022 period, Kaltara's exports amounted to USD 236.8 million. The book was slightly sloping 9.26 percent compared to March 2022 which reached 261 million US dollars.

"The main export destinations through ports in North Kalimantan Province in April 2022 are India, China, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines," he said.

Zainal added that the five countries even accounted for 84.8 percent of the total exports in their region.

"When compared to March 2022, there was an increase in exports to Malaysia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Italy, and Vietnam and a decline in exports to India, China and Korea," he continued.

In terms of imports, it was recorded at USD 41.8 million in January-April 2022, an increase of 65.6 percent yoy.

"Meanwhile, the trade balance of export-import activities through ports in North Kalimantan still shows a positive value or a surplus of USD 687.62 million in the first four months of this year. This achievement is better than last year in the same period of USD 347.23 million," concluded Zainal.
