JAKARTA - Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives approved the Indicative Ceiling of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) for Fiscal Year 2023 of IDR 6.18 trillion.

The chairman of Commission IV Sub-Department emphasized that the DPR, as a partner of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, hopes that the budget will be used to preserve forests, restore the environment, and the welfare of the people living around forest areas.

"I want the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, in 2023, to preserve forest and restore the environment, improve welfare and empower communities in and around forest areas, conservation activities for protected plants and animals, as well as forest and land rehabilitation activities," said the Sub-Department of the Working Meeting of Commission IV of the DPR RI with the Minister of Environment and Forestry at the Nusantara Senayan Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 14.

The Sub-Department emphasized that activities related to resilience to prevent disasters and climate change must also be considered.

On the other hand, Commission IV of the DPR RI accepts and supports the proposed additional Indicative Ceiling of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for the 2023 Fiscal Year of IDR 2.14 trillion.

Finally, he encouraged the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency to immediately allocate a budget for forest and land fire prevention and control programs.

For him, this is important to deal with potential disasters during the dry season, which will come in August 2022 as well as the El-Nino cycle which is predicted to occur in 2023.

Previously, in a meeting with Commission IV on Thursday 9 June, KLHK asked for an additional indicative budget ceiling of IDR 2.14 trillion.

In the meeting the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Bambang Hendroyono, conveyed the indicative ceiling received by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in 2023 of IDR 6.18 trillion, a decrease of IDR 1 trillion more than the indicative ceiling of 2022, which was IDR 7.12 trillion.
