JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is said to have received a mandate from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to become a member of the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) together with the German Chancellor, Bangladesh Prime Minister, Barbados Prime Minister, and Senegal President.
The Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, said that this group is tasked with helping mitigate pressure and seek to come up with solutions to the world financial and economic crisis.
"The GCRG is in line with the G20 agenda in several ways, such as the energy transition that supports efforts to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), ensuring access to sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy, and support easy access to finance and technology for development", he said in a press statement quoted on Monday, June 13.
According to Susiwijono, the results of the discussion between the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the heads of state/government of the GCRG are set out in Policy Brief Number 2 which emphasizes the importance of two main things:
VOIR éGALEMENT:
First, is the need for stability in global food and energy markets to cope with rising global prices. Second, is the urgency to be able to immediately help the poor countries and communities of the world with the available resources and instruments.
“The establishment of the GCRG aims to advocate and facilitate global consensus on actions to avoid, mitigate, and respond to the impacts of the food, energy, and financial crises on vulnerable countries, especially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine and Russia", he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's participation in the GCRG is in line with Indonesia's commitment in the 2022 G20 Presidency to encourage G20 members to work together to balance the interests of all members and ensure that no one is left behind.
