Erick Thohir: PLN Is The Heart Of Indonesia, Future Economic Growth Needs Electricity

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said that in the future electricity is very important to support future economic growth. Therefore, according to him, as a state-owned electricity company, PLN is the heart of Indonesia.

"PLN is the heart of Indonesia. Why? That all future economic growth needs electricity. We'll see how electric cars and motorbikes will be. Industry needs electricity," he said during the event 'Minister of SOEs greets SP PLN and Millennials', Thursday, April 7.

In line with the important role of electricity as the backbone of economic growth, PLN must also become a World Class Company, according to Erick, PLN needs to move quickly.

Furthermore, Erick believes that PLN needs to become a more agile and competitive company. According to him, this effort cannot be separated from the involvement of the millennial generation of PLN and also the PLN Workers Union.

"The millennial generation and the Labor Union are PLN's strengths to go far forward. Currently, everything is on one platform, one family in one line of struggle," he said.

According to Erick, to support PLN to be more agile in the future, it is necessary to have a common vision and mission between the government, PLN directors, management and PLN personnel. This cohesiveness, said Erick, is a key point to bring PLN to be better in the future.

"Electricity is the center of economic growth, we just have to see the disruption, change, whether the disruption of renewable energy or digitalization is unavoidable. But we must be ready, we must rise up, be solid to face this change," he said.

On the same occasion, Chairman of the PLN Workers Union Abrar Ali explained that the support from the Minister of SOEs is clear evidence from the government in encouraging PLN to become an agile and leading company in serving the community.

"Through transformation, PLN is committed to making a real contribution to the nation and society. Support from the government is an encouragement for all PLN personnel," said Abrar.
