SURABAYA - The General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) of PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (Bank Jatim) which was held in Surabaya, Thursday, March 17, has appointed the former President Director of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI) for the 2017-2019 period, Suprajarto, as President Commissioner (Komut) of the new company.

In his first statement as President Commissioner, Suprajarto immediately set a high target to be realized by the management of Bank Jatim, namely to become the best Regional Development Bank (BPD) in Indonesia, shifting the position of PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Barat and Banten Tbk (Bank Jabar).

"We want to ensure that at least Bank Jatim can shift Bank Jabar to the number one position (BPD)," Suprajarto said, as reported by Antara, Thursday, March 17.

In order to realize this target, Suprajarto invited the new formations of high-ranking Bank Jatim to be able to collaborate with local governments, and be ready to follow changes that occur in the financial and banking sectors.

"The potential of East Java is extraordinary. As the gateway to eastern Indonesia, of course, there are many things that can be done by Bank Jatim between the board of commissioners and the board of directors," said Suprajarto.

In his position as President Commissioner, Suprajarto also promised to mobilize all his energy and experience in the country's banking industry so far. Responding to the challenges and enthusiasm of SUprajarto, the President Director of Bank Jatim, Busrul Iman, also expressed his support.

"To be able to seize opportunities, we have a power plan until 2025. Including in the IT sector, digital, of course we will make it happen," said Busrul, on the same occasion.

Meanwhile, the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, who was also present at the GMS, expressed her appreciation for the positive performance of Bank Jatim in the 2021 financial year which recorded an increase in total assets of 20.45 percent from the previous year.

Khofifah encouraged Bank Jatim not only to become a profit institution, but to be able to stimulate the economic sector in the region, by contributing to lending to strengthen the expansion of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.

Based on the record, the overall asset value of Regional Development Banks spread throughout Indonesia until the end of the second quarter of 2021 has increased to 7.73 percent.

The total assets of 26 BPD Banks were recorded at IDR 787.85 trillion, up from the position at the end of 2020 which was at IDR 730.97 trillion.

Two of the three BPD bank issuers listed on the stock exchange, leading in terms of total assets until the middle of 2021 are PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Barat and Banten Tbk (BJBR) assets reaching IDR 150.44 trillion.

The second issuer is PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (BJTM) of IDR 95.47 trillion, an increase of 14.18 percent from the previous IDR 83.62 trillion.
