JAKARTA - PT Bank Mandiri Tbk. reportedly ready to expand the scope of business in the field of digital services by venturing into the Metaverse ecosystem. This expansion plan is realized through a collaboration with WIR Group, which is a leading developer of augmented reality and Metaverse technology in Southeast Asia.

Bank Mandiri President Director Darmawan Junaidi said this collaboration would give a new color, especially in the banking sector. According to him, Metaverse is the most tangible form of presenting the beyond banking vision feature.

"Metaverse is an ideal place to expand digital business as a whole without being limited by physical space," he said in a press statement on Wednesday, March 16.

Darmawan added that the company will explore several things from this latest feature, starting from basic banking such as virtual branches to services that are beyond banking.

"Through Metaverse, Bank Mandiri will also contribute to the growth of Indonesia's digital economy, which is in line with the vision of the Indonesian government," he said.

Furthermore, Darmawan explained that the presence of the financial services industry in Metaverse has just entered the initial development stage. He did not rule out the possibility that this virtual world would become a location for the development of advanced technology-based future banking.

"We believe the future of digital banking will certainly be very different from today," he said.

For information, Metaverse is a platform based on AR, VR, and AI technology that is able to create interactions in a unique virtual world, just like an urban lifestyle in real life.

Meanwhile, the bank with the ticker issuer of BMRI considers that the potential for digital finance in Indonesia is very large, which can be seen from the portion of internet users reaching 73 percent of the current total population.

“In the future, many new features will be developed, including Metaverse. Bank Mandiri, will consistently provide the best, fresher value proposition and banking experience, and continue to prioritize customer security and convenience in accessing our various services," concluded Darmawan.
