Encouraging Sustainable Investment, Bahlil: Government Focuses On Seizing G20 Momentum

JAKARTA - Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said Indonesia will focus on promoting investment opportunities that will support the vision of economic transformation in the trade, investment and industry working groups at the G20 momentum.

Furthermore, Bahlil said that Indonesia's presidency at this year's G20 Summit must be fully utilized to be able to realize the vision of economic transformation.

"What is the focus of the Indonesian government in taking advantage of the momentum of the G20, first, we will encourage sustainable investment, inclusive investment," he said at the Inauguration of the G20 Trade, Investment and Industry Working Group/Inauguration Trade, Investment and Industry Working Group (TWIIWG) online, Tuesday, February 8th.

According to Bahlil, as a country rich in natural resources, Indonesia must be in a leading position in playing a role in encouraging sustainable investment.

Meanwhile, a number of sectors that the government is currently pushing include new renewable energy (EBT) to downstreaming of minerals into raw materials for electric vehicle batteries.

In line with this, said Bahlil, the government is also encouraging environmentally friendly and equitable investments.

The former chairman of HIPMI explained that foreign investors who have technological capabilities must be able to collaborate with national entrepreneurs so that the added value can also be felt domestically.

Third, said Bahlil, is an investment that is truly beneficial for entrepreneurs in the region and the involvement of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"The president's directive to us is that investment should not only be seen from the nominal figure, not from the side of the country that enters, but also fair investment that empowers regional entrepreneurs and MSMEs," he said.
