JAKARTA - It is said that PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will continue to operate trains in accordance with government regulations amid the rising number of COVID-19 for the Omicron variant.

It was revealed that KAI also routinely reminds customers to always maintain health protocols in a disciplined manner both at the station and during the trip.

"KAI continues to provide the best service for people who need connectivity through rail transportation while still implementing strict health protocol discipline," said KAI's VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus in an official statement today, Sunday, February 6.

According to him, until now the conditions for taking the train have not changed. KAI is still referring to the SE of the Ministry of Transportation Number 97 of 2021 concerning the Prevention of the Spread of COVID-19 through rail transportation.

The following are the requirements for taking the train according to the SE of the Ministry of Transportation No. 97 of 2021:

1. Long Distance Train:

a. Customers over 12 years old are required to vaccinate at least the first dose. If you have not been vaccinated for medical reasons, you can include a certificate from a specialist doctor or a government hospital doctor as a substitute for the vaccine. Shows a negative Rapid Test Antigen which is valid for 1x24 hours.

b. Customers under 12 years old, showing negative Rapid Test Antigen results which are valid 1x24 hours and accompanied by parents.

2. Local Trains:

a. Customers over 12 years old are required to vaccinate at least the first dose. If you have not been vaccinated for medical reasons, you can include a certificate from a specialist doctor or a government hospital doctor as a substitute for the vaccine.

b. Customers under 12 years old, accompanied by parents.

"If a prospective long-distance train customer cannot show a negative Rapid Test Antigen or PCR result, then they can apply for a ticket cancellation with an administrative fee of 25 percent. Requests for ticket cancellations can be made at the cancellation station or the KAI Access application a maximum of 30 minutes before the train's departure," he said.

Joni added that train customers must be in good health (not suffering from flu, colds, coughs, loss of smell, diarrhea, and fever), and body temperature not exceeding 37.3 degrees Celsius. Customers are also required to wear a three-layer cloth mask or a medical mask that covers the nose and mouth, and are not allowed to speak one-way or two-way by telephone or in person throughout the journey.

Then, customers are not allowed to eat and drink along the way for a trip that is less than 2 hours, except for individuals who are obliged to take medicine for treatment which if not done can endanger the safety and health of the person.

KAI also asks customers to wash their hands with soap under running water, maintain distance, stay away from crowds, reduce mobility, avoid eating together, and use hand sanitizer.

“KAI ensures that customers who take the train are customers who are in good health and complete the requirements. Customers who do not meet the requirements will be refused to take the train," continued Joni.

To create physical distancing, KAI also limits the seating capacity of trains sold according to government regulations, namely 80 percent for long-distance trains and 70 percent for local trains. In addition, it was also informed that all KAI employees have been vaccinated twice and have started to carry out booster vaccinations.

"KAI is committed to providing the best service to all customers by providing connectivity through safe and healthy rail transportation," concluded Joni.
