China Masters 2023: Silence World Champion, Anthony Ginting To The Second Round

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting won the first round of the 2023 China Masters against Loh Kean Yew (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Anthony Sinisuka Ginting successfully passed the first round of the 2023 China Masters by defeating the 2021 world champion from Singapore, Loh Kean Yew.

The bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics won two straight games 21-15 and 21-19 to secure Indonesia's first ticket at the men's singles on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at noon WIB.

Anthony Ginting played tight at the start of the first game. However, in the end he was able to take control with five consecutive points after the position was equal to 14-14. He then only lost one more point after that.

"I can sequentially get four-five points and can change a little the pattern that the opponent had previously felt comfortable with. The change in my pattern made the opponent uncomfortable," Ginting said after the match.

In the second game, Ginting was still forced to play tight. He was even 15-18 behind before bounce back with five consecutive points to reach match points.

Ginting failed in the first attempt before stopping his opponent. He locked the ticket to the second round of the 2023 China Masters to meet Lin Chun-Yi from China Taipei.

"After that, (it was 15-18) I was able to re-enter my game pattern until I got five points. The changes in my pattern made the opponent uncomfortable," Ginting said.

This is Ginting's fifth straight win out of a total of seven clashes with the Singaporean men's singles.

Previously, their first two meetings were all won by Loh Kean Yew. Each occurred at the 2014 Indonesia Masters and the 2022 Thomas & Uber Cup.
