Weekend World Boxing Results: Janibek Alimkhanuly and Tim Tszyu Defend Titles

JAKARTA – The world boxing event held this weekend resulted in two wins for the defending champion. They are Janibek Alimkhanuly and Tim Tszyu, who competed in two different places.

Alimkhanuly, a boxer from Kazakhstan who holds the WBO middleweight (72 kg) title, won by TKO in the 6th round over Vincenzo Gualtieri, a German boxer with Italian blood. The Alimkhanuly vs Gualtieri match was held at the Fort Bend Community Center, Roseberg, Texas, USA on Saturday (14/10).

Alimkhanuly not only defended the WBO title, but also completed the IBF championship belt. The Alimkhanuly vs Guatieri duel is a title unification, and the German boxer was previously the IBF champion. Alimkhanuly now has a record of 15-0-0 (10 KOs), while Gualtieri's record is 21-1-1 (7 KOs).

In Australia, Tim Tszyu also defended his WBO junior middleweight (69 kg) title. The Australian boxer with Russian blood won by a unanimous decision in 12 rounds over his challenger, Brian Mendoza from the United States. The Tszyu vs Mendoza fight was held at the Gold Coast Convention Center, Broadbeach, Queensland, Sunday (15/10).

Tszyu, who is the son of former IBF welterweight (66 kg) world champion, Kostya Tszyu, is undefeated with a record of 24-0-0 (17 KOs). Meanwhile, Mendoza suffered the third defeat of his career, having a record of 22-3-0 (16 KOs).
