Waiting For The Fresh Wind From Shin Tae-yong

JAKARTA The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong has not given a breath of fresh air regarding the extension of his contract with PSSI. There is no sign that the coach will increase his tenure.

A South Korean coach was brought in to lead the Indonesian national team since the end of 2019 and his contract will expire this year.

Many parties support the 52-year-old tactician to get a contract extension. However, towards the end of his tenure, PSSI has not provided clarity.

"If the issue [contract] will be officially announced later," said Shin Tae-yong after leading the Indonesian national team's training to welcome the 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Brunei.

Shin explained that for now he and PSSI are still discussing without specifying the extent of the conversation. "So, it's still in talks with General Chair Erick Thohir," he said.

Shin is considered worthy of being maintained by PSSI. The reason is, even though he has not provided a trophy, the coach is considered to have contributed a lot to the development of Indonesian football.

The coach's most praised achievement was bringing the three levels of the Indonesian national team to the Asian Cup through the qualifying round.
