JAKARTA - Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Lemar will undergo surgery after suffering a right Achilles tendon injury when his team Kaalah 0-3 from Valencia, Saturday 16 September. Atletico management revealed this certainty.

The 27-year-old, who joined Atletico from AS Monaco in 2018, must be removed from the pitch on a stretcher.

"After undergoing tests performed on the French player, a medical report from the club's medical services showed that he had a eruption in his right Achilles tendon and had to undergo surgery," Atletico said in a statement on Sunday, September 17.

"Hopefully the best for Thom, we hope for a quick recovery," added Atletico management.

Diego Simeone's team, who are currently seventh in LaLiga with seven points in four games, will start their Champions League opener against Lazio on Tuesday 19 September or Wednesday 20 September at 02.00 WIB. After that they will host Real Madrid in La Liga matches on 24 September.

Losing the Lemar, Simeone had to rack his brain to fill their midfield ranks.

He is included in a row of players who have suffered various injury problems. Previously, Atletico had lost Koke Resurreccion, Caglar Soyuncu, Rodrigo De Paul, and Memphis Depay, due to Cederda and fitness issues.

However, the former SM Caen and AS Monaco player decided to stay in the capital Iberia. The 27-year-old player suffered a torn Achilles tendon. This is a major blow to players and Atletico, who discussed their absence.

The 27-year-old Lemar is expected to be absent for most of the season as the average recovery time for this type of injury is six months.

An alternative available to Atletico coach, is now increasingly limited ahead of the Champions League campaign against Lazio.
