In The Aftermath Of The Match Officials, Virgil Van Dijk Gets Additional Punishment From The FA

JAKARTA - The English Football Federation (FA) officially imposed additional sanctions on Liverpool captain and center-back Virgil van Dijk. This additional sanction is in the form of a ban on appearing in one match and a fine of 100 thousand pounds (Rp1.9 billion).

This sanction is an addition to the previous sentence. The Dutch defender was handed a red card in Liverpool vs Newcastle United match, late last month.

While appearing at The Magpies headquarters, Van Dijk was expelled by referee John Brooks after committing a gross foul on Aleksandar Isak in the 28th minute. As a result, Van Dijk had to undergo a ban on appearing in one match in the English Premier League.

Van Dijk actually carried out the sanction when Liverpool lowered Aston Villa in the fourth week of the Premier League last weekend.

However, Van Dijk had to be absent again due to additional sanctions from the FA. That was the aftermath of Van Dijk's crackdown on referee Brooks and was reluctant to leave the pitch.

Even though he was finally willing to leave the field, Van Dijk was known to have cursed and uttered harsh words to the match officials when he entered the aisle into the players' dressing room.

''Virgil van Dijk is banned from playing in one game and fined 100 thousand for violating FA rules,'' the FA's official statement said as reported by Sky Sports on Sunday, September 10.

From the FA's point of view, they said Van Dijk had admitted his mistake about inappropriate action against the match equipment in Liverpool's match against Newcastle United.

The sanction was later imposed and has received approval from the FA Independent Regulatory Commission, the FA's official statement continued.

With these additional sanctions, Van Dijk will not be able to be fielded when Liverpool travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers' headquarters in the fifth week of the Premier League next week.

On Van Dijk's own side, the player has gracefully accepted the FA's decision. The 32-year-old centre-back said he would not make any appeals regarding the additional sanctions.

Van Dijk pleaded guilty and has apologized for his actions after receiving a red card in the match against Newcastle United.

"It was my first red card during my time playing Liverpool. I let that frustration take control of me in such an intense and hot moment. I immediately apologized to the device of the match as soon as it was finished and ready to take responsibility," wrote Van Dijk.
