2023 World Championships: Dejan/Gloria And Chico Compact To The Second Round

JAKARTA Indonesian mixed doubles Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja advanced to the second round of the 2023 Badminton World Championships.

They qualified after defeating Japanese representatives Yuki Kaneko/Misaki Matsutomo 21-14 and 21-12 at the Royal Arena, Copenhagen, Denmark, Monday (21/8).

This is Dejan/Gloria's second win over the pair. In the two meetings before they drew 1-1 wins and always played rubber games.

"Earlier we played well and won two straight games. Unlike the rubber game in the previous two meetings. Our pattern of play was good. I was able to play well and serve at the front to lure and cut the front ball," said Gloria.

In the second round, Dejan/Gloria will face the ninth seeded pair Robin Tableing/Selena Piek. This Dutch representative got an empty draw in the first half.

Dejan/Gloria have a good record of Robin/Selena. From one clash at the Malaysia Open 2023, they managed to come out victorious after going through a two-game match.

"We've met and won before. We definitely know how the opponent's habits are. However, we have plus values, with that victory," said Dejan.

Apart from Dejan/Gloria, the ticket to the second half was also secured by the men's singles Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo after stopping Australian representatives Nathan Tang in two straight games, 21-7 and 21-7.

Chico in the second half will face India's Prannoy HS. The ninth seed reached the second round of the age of beating Finnish representative Kalle Koljonen.

Before the tickets for Indonesia were obtained by these two representatives, the women's singles Kusuma Wardani had already extended her steps to the second round. He defeated the representative of Ukraine, Polina Buhrova.
