Spanish National Team Captain Olga Carmona Receives Sad News After Becoming Her National Hero To Win The 2023 Women's World Cup

JAKARTA The captain of the Spanish women's soccer national team, Olga Carmona, received sad news after escorting his team to win the 2023 Women's World Cup. The father died.

Carmona, who scored her country's only winning goal in the final, was only notified after the match against England at Accor Stadium, Australia, Sunday, August 20 evening WIB.

The father of the 23-year-old Real Madrid left-back has struggled with the illness he has suffered and died on Friday Spanish time.

"I know my dad took care of me tonight and my dad was proud of me. Rest in peace dad," Carmona wrote on social media quoted by the BBC.

The message was written in a photo of him kissing his winning medal.

"Without me realizing it, I had got a star before the game started. I knew that dad had given me the power to achieve something unique," he added.

As usual, a gold star is added to the costumes of the World Cup winners, on the national team symbol, every time they win trophies.

"RFEF deeply regrets announcing the death of Olga Carmona's father," the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) wrote on social media.

"The footballer learned of this sad news after the World Cup final. We sent our sincere hugs to Olga and her family in deep times of grief. We love you, Olga, you are the history of Spanish football," they added.

This narrow victory made Spain entitled to bring home their first trophy from this competition after making their best move in this event by reaching the last 16 in the 2019 edition.

From the first edition in 1991 to 2011 Spain has never qualified for the Women's World Cup. They only qualified for the first time in the 2015 edition, but immediately ended up in the group phase.
