Manchester United's Victory Over Wolves Colored By Penalty Controversy, This Is What Andre Onana Said

JAKARTA - Manchester United goalkeeper (MU), Andre Onana, spoke about the controversy over the penalty kick in the match against Wolverhampton, Tuesday, August 15, early morning WIB.

MU and Wolves met in the inaugural match of the English Premier League 2023/2024 at Old Trafford Stadium, Tuesday, August 15 in the morning WIB. In that match, the Red Devils won 1-0 over the visitors.

However, MU's victory was marked by controversy in the 90+3 minute which also involved Onana in her debut match. Onana was involved in the incident that occurred in the Red Devils penalty box.

At that time Onana tried to block the cross from the right that Wolves players sent. The Cameroonian goalkeeper then came out of his nest to save the net.

However, when trying to block the ball, Onana seemed to have the wrong anticipation. As a result, the movement of both hands actually hit Wolves player, Sasa Kalajdzic, who was able to head the ball.

The incident then drew strong protests from Wolves players who felt Kalajdzic was clearly violated by Onana. However, referee Simon happened not to see it as a violation.

The referee's decision then made Gary O'Neil, Wolves' manager, also protest. However, he instead got a yellow card from the referee for being deemed to have protested excessively regarding the incident.

After the match, Onana commented on the incident that occurred on the field. He admitted that he was not worried at all about the controversy.

"To be honest, there is no (worries)," Onana told MUTV quoted from Manchester Evening News, Tuesday, August 15

"I'm not worried at all. Because in the end, I made the decisions myself. You can make the right choices and sometimes not, in the end you learn from mistakes," Onana added.

Onana said she believed the referee had issued the right decision on the penalty controversy. Especially now that VAR technology can be used as a reference to see what actually happened on the pitch.

"I believe the referee, what they are doing is not easy. Especially now that there is VAR. So I'm calm. I'm just an ordinary contact. There I am calm and for me, I am very happy with this victory," he said.

"It's important to get a win and a clean sheet is what we want. But in the end the most important thing is victory," concluded the goalkeeper.
