Dramatic Win, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung To The Second Round Of Japan Open 2023

JAKARTA The women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung successfully reached the second round of the Japan Open 2023. The seventh seed defeated Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong.

Playing at the Yoyogi Gymnasium on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 afternoon, Gregoria qualified after playing dramatically the runner game. He closed the match with the final score 21-19, 18-21, and 21-18.

This victory made Gregoria successfully deliver a winning-loss record with Pornpawee. Both now both won three times and lost three times.

In the second round, Gregoria will face the winner of the duel of two Taiwanese players, Sung Shuo Yun vs Pai Yu Po. If they qualify from the second half then Gregoria could face first seed Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-finals.

Unfortunately, Gregoria's success in stepping into the second half failed to be followed by two mixed doubles Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti and Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.

The pair who hold the All England 2020 title must lift their suitcases after giving up two straight games from the third seed from Japan, Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino.

Meanwhile, Rehan/Lisa ran aground in the hands of Hong Kong pair Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet. The couple had to end their journey in the Super 750 BWF tournament early due to losing two games.

After this, there are still three representatives who are struggling to reach the second half. They are the men's doubles Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, and men's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
