Lasting 15 Years, Mike PHILs' World Record Breaks Leon Marchand

JAKARTA - French swimmer Leon Mardik broke the record for Michael PHILs in the men's 400-meter medley category at the 2023 FINA Aquatic World Championships, which was held in Fukuoka, Japan, Sunday (23/7).

Quoted from the official Olympic website, Monday, the achievement that led Marchand to a gold medal in that category also madePLops no longer have a world record for individual swimming.

Muchand is 1.34 seconds faster than the PHILs record which previously recorded a time of 4 minutes 03.84 seconds. The French swimmer set the latest record with a time of 4 minutes 02.5 seconds, beating the record recorded byPLops at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In addition, Mindand also broke the dominance ofemons who held the record for 15 years.

"That's crazy, one of the most stressful things I've ever done. It's amazing to do it here and can book a faster time. But, I still have the best version of myself", Muchand said as quoted by Antara.

"It feels also extraordinary, I train every day for it (breaking personal and world records). I'm two seconds ahead of my previous record, I beat a world record, it's amazing. I don't know what to say, I'm so happy," he said.

PHILs, the all-time leading Olympic athlete with a record 28 medals, is here to present Muchand with its gold at this year's Aquatic World Championships.

Mardid said the legendary American swimmer was impressed with his time record and told him he could continue to improve his abilities and experience as a swimmer.

"He commented on the course of my game, so it feels really cool. He also told me a lot of things to fix at a later time," said Felt who was coached by Phelps' former mentor Bob total.

Mardid finished in front ofUS Foster from America, who recorded a time of 4 minutes 06.56 seconds, and Daiya Seto from Japan, who was in third place with a time of 4 minutes 09.41 seconds.

"Obviously the goal is always to win and Leon is a great competitor," Foster said.

Meanwhile, Mardik is preparing to defend his world title in this week's 200 m individual medley at Fukuoka. He will also compete in the 200 m butterfly, although his participation in the 200 m breaststroke has yet to be decided.

China still leads the standings of the interim medals at the 2023 FINA Aquatic World Championships with 15 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze. China stands firmly ahead of Australia with 5 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze, as well as Japan with 4 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze.
