JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian men's volleyball national team Jiang Jie is optimistic that his team will play more compactly against Thailand in the match to determine the leader of the 2023 SEA V League tournament standings.

Armed with two victories over Vietnam and the Philippines, Indonesia will maintain the top of the standings when they host Thailand at the Candradimuka Padepokan Volleyball Hall of Police General Kunarto, Sentul, Bogor, Sunday, July 23.

"You can compare our game now with there (AVC Challenge Cup 2023) and the difference will be seen. We are now more compact in teamwork. In Taiwan the problem is teamwork," Jiang Jie was quoted as saying by ANTARA, Sunday, July 23.

Previously, the Indonesian national team had to acknowledge Thailand's superiority in the quarter-finals of the AVC Challenge Cup 2023 through dramas along five sets, 2-3 (20-25, 27-25, 25-20, 18-25 and 12-15).

However, the current condition of the Indonesian national team is different from the previous meeting. In addition, the return to the slick performance of Fahri Septian Pututama's hitter is expected to be a differentiator against Thailand as shown by the best player in the 2023 Proliga when facing Vietnam.

"He (Fahri) had a good attack and became one of the key players of the Indonesian national team. He did have an injury in Taiwan but is now fully recovered. That's why I trust him for today. Hopefully he will play well," said the former coach of the New Zealand national team.

Fahri Septian Putratama himself conducted an analysis of his team's last meeting at AVC Challange 2023 to prepare against Thailand in the SEA V League 2023 event.

In the match to determine the leader of the standings, Indonesia will host Thailand at the Candradimuka Padepokan Sports Hall, General Police Kunarto, Sentul, Bogor, Sunday.

"We learned from yesterday's mistakes at AVC Challenge 2023 Taipei, Taiwan yesterday. What are the shortcomings of our team to fix. Currently we have a track record meeting and video (match), so we can analyze what our weaknesses are and the shortcomings of us and our opponents," said Fahri.

Jiang Jie also revealed that he would make special preparations to increase the confidence of the players.

"It is a difficult match and we have to make serious preparations. We need better preparation so that the players are more confident," said the coach who is often called Jeff Jiang.

Indonesia will run the final match in the first series of the SEA V League 2023 against Thailand, Sunday at 18.30 WIB.
