JAKARTA - PB Wushu Indonesia is not playing games in preparing its athletes for the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games. Classy physical trainers were brought in to forge Red and White athletes.

Indonesia's taolu coach, Susyana Tjhan, said that his party had recruited a physical trainer who was a taolu specialist who had scored a world champion. It was not mentioned in detail the name of the physical coach who would forge Edgar Xavier Marvelo and his friends, but this figure helped Chinese athlete Wu Zhao Hua become world champion in 2019 and won gold at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.

"In addition to being handled by Chinese coach Zhang Yuening, who has been contracted by PB WI for a long time since 2011, the athlete's physical training program is also handled by the physical trainer of the world champion wushu taolu and the 2018 Asian Games champion, Wu Zhao Hua," said Susyana, as reported by Antara.

Currently, the Indonesian wushu national team is forging itself in China in preparation for the biggest sporting event in Asia which is scheduled to take place on September 23-8 October.

The training camp lasted approximately three months. This is PB WI's effort to be able to defend one gold, one silver and one bronze medal which was won at the 2018 Asian Games.

Overall, PB WI sent 15 athletes with details of eight taolu athletes and seven sanda athletes to China.

While in the Bamboo Curtain Country, the Red and White wushu squad will also undergo a series of trials in order to achieve the best results while competing in the 19th edition of Asia's biggest sporting event.

The manager of the Indonesian Wushu National Team, Iwan Kwok, said that in the near future Indonesian athletes will first appear at the 2023 FISU World University Games which will take place in Chengdu, China, July 29, August 3.

"Initially the FISU World University Games was held in 2021 but was postponed to 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will make the championship the last test event for Indonesian wushu athletes," said Iwan Kwok who is also the Deputy Chairperson of 1 PB WI in charge of achievement.

"From the results of the FISU, an evaluation will be carried out to improve the shortage and strengthen the advantage of athletes so that they can achieve maximum results when appearing at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games," he concluded.
