'King Kazu' Kazuyoshi Miura Makes Debut At Portuguese Club Oliveirense At 56 Years Old

JAKARTA - Former Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura made his debut for second-tier Portuguese club Oliveirense. This is one of the achievements in the 'King Kazu' football career considering his age is no longer young, 56 years old. Miura, who joined Oliveirense on loan from Yokohama FC earlier this year, entered in the 90th minute with a 4-1 win at the Academico de Viseu. According to a report on the Portuguese league's website, reported by Reuters, Miura's appearance made him "the oldest footballer to have played in Portuguese football, with 56 years, one month, and 24 days". Miura, which is in its 38th season of professional football, has played for a number of clubs around the world including Palmeiras, Genoa, Dinamo Zagreb, and Vissel Kobe. Portugal is Miura's sixth country, dubbed the "King of Kazu" by fans, after starting its career in the world of running with a spell at Brazil's Santos in 1986.

He played 89 times for Japan, won the Asian Cup in 1992, and was the country's second-highest goalscorer of all time with 55 goals. His last international game was in 2000.
