Frank Lampard's Regret After Failing To Stop Real Madrid's Laju To The Champions League Semifinals

JAKARTA - Chelsea failed to block Real Madrid to the semifinals of the 2022/2023 Champions League. The Blues actually lost at home to Los Blancos at Stamford Bridge.

In the second leg which took place on Wednesday, April 19 in the morning WIB, Chelsea lost 0-2. In fact, they had a number of chances to score in that match.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard also regretted the failure of his foster children. He considered his squad to be good at times but said one of his team's shortcomings in this match was failing to score a goal against the visitors escorted by Thibaut Courtois.

"We played very well for 60 minutes," Lampard said, quoted from the club's official website.

"We have a huge energy, a big organization in the team, causing a lot of trouble for Real Madrid. The only thing missing from our game is goals," Lampard continued.

He added, "At this level when you create some very good chances like we did, then you have to take advantage of it."

Livescore noted that later reported by Antara, in this second leg match, the Blues had 52 percent possession, six shots on target, and five shots missed the target.

These statistics show Chelsea are slightly more dominant than the opposing team because El Real only has 48 percent possession, six shots on target, and three kicks off target.

In his press conference, Lampard insisted he did not want to get lost. The 44-year-old coach was tolerant and asked his team to learn from the defeat in the UCL quarter-final match against Carlo Ancelotti's team.

"This is not our night. But it is important for the players to learn from this and understand what kind and what it takes at this level," Lampard said.

He also asked his team to get up immediately and focus on the nearest match against Brentford at home in the Premier League for the 2022/2023 season on Thursday, April 27.

"The next step is a holiday tomorrow, back to work on Thursday, working towards Brentford," said Lampard.
