Proliga's Best Player Appointment Raises Question Marks, Is There Really A Certain Element Of Interest?

YOGYAKARTA - The national volleyball competition, Proliga 2023, leaves behind the polemic regarding awarding individual player titles. Question marks also appeared in the minds of a number of coaches, players and fans of Indonesia's highest caste.

Proliga Director Hanny S. Surkatty immediately opened his voice in response to allegations of certain interests after several unexpected player names were named the best in this season's competition.

"The determination or selection of individual titles is based on statistical data on player appearances, not the PBVSI management or the Proliga committee who choose," Hanny confirmed in Yogyakarta, Monday, March 20, 2023, reported by Antara.

This skewed opinion came after the Proliga organizers announced and handed over the individual best player award for the women's sector after the final match at the Amongrogo Sports Hall in Yogyakarta, Saturday, March 18.

Hanny admitted that he really understood the objections of several parties. However, his party also has a strong reason because they involve experts to record player statistics during the season.

"The person who recorded the statistical data for this player is the chairman of the S3 (doctorate) in sports," he said.

Out of the eight women's individual titles announced, the names of the Jakarta BIN team's middle blocker Myrasuci Indriani and his partner from Brazil, Fernanda Davis Tome, emerged. Both of them each received the title of best blocker and top scorer.

Myrasuci, whose appearance was considered not very prominent, managed to outperform a number of strong candidates such as Agustin Wulandari from Jakarta Pertamina Fastron and the Bandung duo Bjb Tandamata Shella Bernadetha and Wilda Siti Nurfadilah.

Meanwhile, Fernanda Tome, who actually just played in the second round, defeated Madeline Jazmin (Bandung bjb Tandamata) who actually won the best server title.

Debate also occurred after the outside hitter of the Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk Indonesia team Mediol Stiovanny Yoku was awarded the most valuable player (MVP) or the best player.

The player who is familiarly called Mediyoku set aside a number of favorite names, such as Wilda Siti Nurfadilah and Megawati Hangestri (Jakarta Pertamina Fastron). The awarding of the title was considered strange because the Gresik Petrokimia team failed to advance to the final.

"I don't know what the election system is like. However, statistical data can beat the appearance of real players on the field, "said Wilda.

Statistics on the appearance of the players used as a benchmark began to be recorded in the top four rounds up to the grand final. Players who during the regular round played well and stood out, but their team did not make the final four are automatically not counted.

Hanny said that another factor that was also taken into consideration in selecting individual titles was the player's behavior during the match. As for the MVP, the selected players must be local players and do not have to come from the winning team or the Proliga champions.

"If a player ever gets a yellow card, let alone a red card, yes, it's almost certain to pass even with the highest statistics. Statistically and other factors, Mediyoku is the best of the others," he said.
