JAKARTA - The Premier League has admitted that they made a VAR error in the match between Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
Brighton failed to open the game after Pervis Esstupinan was ruled offside. However, a closer inspection of the lines drawn by VAR shows the lines used were taken from the wrong player.
A similar error also occurred during Arsenal's match against Brentford. Brentford's goal was confirmed by VAR even though it looked offside.
The Premier League refereeing body, PGMOL, released a statement apologizing to Brighton and Arsenal for the incident.
"PGMOL can confirm Chief Referee Howard Webb has contacted Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to admit and explain significant errors in the VAR process during their Premier League game on Saturday," said a statement from PGMOL.
"Both incidents, which were caused by human error and related to an analysis of an offside situation, are being thoroughly reviewed by PGMOL," the statement continued.
Former Premier League referee Peter Walton says transparency in decision-making is now being championed under Webb's tutelage.
Especially after several mistakes occurred which made several clubs feel disadvantaged.
