JAKARTA - Sad news has come to the Indonesian football world. Legendary coach, Benny Dollo, has passed away. He breathed his last on Wednesday, February 1.

Before the sad news surfaced, Benny Dollo's health was indeed declining. He has had respiratory problems since July 2022 and continues to receive treatment.

Before he died at the age of 72, Benny Dollo's progress on the Indonesian football scene left quite an impression. He devoted 33 years of his life to serving Indonesian football.

Bendol's Brief Profile

Benny Dollo was born in Manado, North Sulawesi on September 22, 1950. The man whose real name is Benny Selvianus Dollo is attached to the image of a coach who is firm, fierce, but smart.

During his service as a coach, Benny Dollo has handled 10 clubs. In addition, he was also entrusted with handling the Indonesian national team for two periods starting in 2000-2001 and 2008-2010.

UMS 80 became the first club coached by Benny Dollo. At the beginning of his career success did not immediately stick.

He failed twice to bring UMS 80 to win the Premier League (Galatama). But that failure didn't make Bendol, his nickname, give up.

Bendol continued to pursue his career and hone his skills until he was finally entrusted with coaching big-name clubs.

Some of the big clubs he has coached are Pelita Jaya West Java, Persita Tangerang, Persitara North Jakarta, Persma Manado, Arema Malang, Persija Jakarta, Mitra Kukar, Sriwijaya FC.

When managing Pelita Jaya, Benny Dollo succeeded in presenting the Galatama title in 1988, 1990, and 1993. Meanwhile while coaching Persita Tangerang, he successfully brought the club nicknamed Laskar Cisadane to become runners-up in the 2002 Indonesian League.

It didn't stop there, Arema Malang also became a club that also felt the coach's cold hand. Under the tutelage of Benny Dollo, Singo Edan was able to win the Copa Dji Sam Soe in 2005 and 2006.
