JAKARTA - Daniel Ricciardo's future has been answered after he was not the main driver in the 2023 Formula 1 race. He is finally "going home".

Ricciardo has officially rejoined Red Bull Racing. He will be the third driver for the 2023 season.

"With his characteristics and extensive experience, Daniel will assist the team with testing and assignments in the simulator as well as commercial activities," Red Bull announced, as reported by Antara via AFP, Wednesday, November 23.

The Australian racer lost his seat at McLaren this year. He was replaced by a young racer, Oscar Piastri. After struggling to find a new port, Ricciardo finally gave up and decided to accept Red Bull's offer while waiting for the opportunity to return in the 2024 season.

As is known, Ricciardo made his Formula 1 debut with Team HRT in 2011 before joining Toro Rosso the following year. Ricciardo was then promoted to Red Bull in 2014 and over five seasons he has won seven races and finished third in the standings twice.

"I am very happy to be returning to Oracle Red Bull Racing. I have many fond memories of my time here," said Ricciardo.

Last week, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff confirmed that he had held talks with Ricciardo regarding the Australian driver's willingness to become Mercedes' third driver. However, the 33-year-old man apparently also had discussions with other teams.

After leaving Red Bull at the end of 2018, Ricciardo spent two seasons with Renault in 2019-2020 and the next two with McLaren. While racing for McLaren, he won just once at the Italian Grand Prix in 2021.
